Big Asparagus
We have been getting one asparagus at a time until night before last. That night we got enough to make a side dish for my wife and me. The really great thing was that the asparagus were huge. Some were as thick as my thumb. This is the first year to actually harvest them. Last year, being the first year, we let them grow into ferns. We did use some of the ferns for decoration.
The weather has been warm and wet lately and it is making everything grow. Last night we had spinach and spring onions to put on our tacos. There are enough collards from the fall planting to pick for tonight. All of the salad greens, spring greens, and sugar peas are doing quite well.
I was concerned that the greenhouse plants would not be big enough to plant by good Friday. They are big enough to plant now. Last year I watered with Vigoro. This year they are watered with compost tea. A pillow case is filled with compost and tied. The compost is changed every week. The spent compost goes back in the newest compost pile.
